Gardenia Jasminoides Stem Cells for Unrivaled Protection and Restoration of the Skin’s Collagen System

Gardenia Stem Cells for LPAR Skin CareAs we discussed in the previous blog in this series, we’ve recently brought new stem cell technology, peptides and other rich ingredients to our Age Management skin care line. You can look forward to new retail products (Stem Cell Replenishing Mask, Stem Cell Eye Therapy) by June 2012. In this installment we will focus on Gardenia Jasminoides Stem Cells, and the importance of collagen for anti-aging.

The Gardenia is a highly fragrant and beautiful flowering plant that has specific substances involved in defensive responses to environmental, physical and biological stress. By utilizing, a proprietary, highly controlled process by IRB called HTN™ green technology, the stimulation and production of plant stem cells with considerable biological properties can be achieved for use in anti-aging products that positively affect the skin’s collagen system.

Collagen is the main structural support of the cells, giving support and firmness to the skin. It undergoes continuous turnover and new collagen is produced and recycled throughout our lives.

As aging occurs, collagen degradation tends to speed up causing weakening and wrinkling of the skin. Furthermore, a number of external factors such as UV exposure, smoking, chlorinated water, free radicals and inflammation contribute to collagen breakdown by activating enzymes responsible for the degradation of the main components of the extracellular matrix, an important part of our connective tissues that support firmness. The result is a loss of elasticity and tone and other classic signs of aging.

Effects of Gardenia stem cell for LPAR Skin CareSo what special or unique properties do Gardenia Stem Cells have for skin’s collagen system? The answer provides some exciting news for age management.

The Gardenia Jasminoides Stems G™ utilized in our Stem Cell Replenishing Mask have three very important and complementary roles:

  • Stimulation of new collagen synthesis
  • Reduce collagen degradation from environmental stress (UV skin damage, aging, etc.)
  • Inhibiting collagenase synthesis (enzymes that break the peptide bonds in collagen)

Since Gardenia Jasminoides stem cells stimulate the synthesis of new collagen, they restore its unavoidable loss associated with aging while strongly inhibiting collagenase. This process limits collagen degradation, prevents skin damage and loss of firmness. The specific anti-aging benefits for LPAR Skin Care products are:

  • Prevention of collagen loss in aged or prematurely aged skin – over 30s
  • Restoring the balance of collagen turnover in aging skin – over 40s
  • Provides deep replenishing and restructuring treatments

The fifth blog in the Age Management Series features the Alp Rose, another stem cell ingredient in our Stem Cell Eye Therapy, coming in June: New Stem Cells Added to LPAR Skin Care Line: PhytoCellTech™ Alpine Rose – Charges Skin Stem Cell Integrity and Resistance to Aging

You can look forward to new retail products (Stem Cell Nourishing Mask, Stem Cell Eye Therapy) by the end of the first half of 2012 in June. Before then, we’ll be taking a closer look at these new and exciting ingredients.

Lucrece Echinacea FlowerThe first article in this series discusses Echinacea Augustifolia Stems G™. The Echinacea plant is widely used and has been found effective for fighting colds, flu infections and when used externally for wound healing and a variety of other skin conditions. Perhaps the most important use of the biologically active components of the Echinacea flower is that it positively stimulates the immune system, collagen synthesis, and reduces inflammation, an accelerator of cell aging.

This stem cell preparation by IRB uses HTH™ biotechnology to extract active ingredients from plants in safe and in eco-sustainable conditions. These active Echinacea stem cells are one ingredient in our Stem Cell Nourishing Mask, which unlike traditional masks, can be left on for extended periods for extra nourishing and firming effects.

Expected benefits – Echinacea Stem Cells:

A Revolution in Anti Aging and Skin Health

Stem cells for skin care represent a major breakthrough in anti aging, skin health and in the protection and strengthening of skin cells. By protecting and replenishing the building blocks of what make up our skin cells, certain long-lived, plant stem cells can continue the process of human skin cell regeneration when our own stem cells slow down or decline. This is at the core of skin health as stem cells serve as a repair system for the body.

The number of epidermal skin stem cells deplete as skin ages. Youthful appearance starts to decline, loss of elasticity, moisture and repeated muscle movements lead to wrinkles and sagging skin as aging cells begin to outnumber their new replacements. As skin matures, damage to cell’s DNA due to exposure to sun and environmental factors contribute to the decline in the skin’s health and appearance. LPAR’s Age Management Stem Cell products are scientifically formulated to:

  • Increase the strength and longevity of skin cells
  • Decreases the loss of collagen
  • Preserve and protect long-term skin health
  • Increase the effectiveness of other active ingredients

Exciting stem cell research has been completed recently on a unique variety of plants including a Swiss apple, known for its unique longevity in storage due to long-lived stem cells. A world of possible anti aging applications opened up and science was able to produce an effective anti aging stem cell extract for human skin. The discovery of certain plant varieties of stem cells is at the cutting edge of anti aging and skin health.

Featuring a potent concentration of medical-grade apple and edelweiss plant stem cells, and boosted by state-of-the-art peptides as well as other complimentary ingredients, LPAR’s Age Management Stem Cell products produce age defying results by restoring skin’s youthful look and vitality. This is especially important for mature skin where collagen degradation and wrinkle depth is most pronounced.

*Peptides stimulate different functions in the skin (like relaxing deep wrinkles similar to Botox) by acting as messengers to skin cells. Stem cell technology improves the life of the core of the cell, working in synergy with peptides, and enhancing the effectiveness of other active ingredients.**

Peptides: Providing powerful effects and visible results with gentle and nourishing delivery systems

Peptides, which play a vital role in our skins health and appearance, will be the topic of future installments of the Age Management Series for their powerful effect on anti aging and skin repair for the face, neck, chest, and hands.

What are Peptides? Simply stated, peptides are partial or short chains of amino acids (proteins) that can act as “messengers,” sending signals to cells with instructions as to how to respond. Peptides “respond” by reducing muscle cell contraction (reducing and smoothing wrinkle depth), stimulating collagen production and elastin, and developing the deeper dermal layer that provides strength and resilience. If long chain proteins were used in anti aging skincare products they could not penetrate the epidermis (top layers) because their molecular size is too large. However, peptides can penetrate the epidermis due to their shorter length and delivery systems.

This installment is an introduction to peptides, which are renowned for their ability to provide anti aging benefits that include:

  • Decreasing wrinkle depth and minimizing fine lines
  • Increasing collagen production (firming and toning)
  • Reducing inflammation that can lead to premature aging
  • Increasing epidermal thickness without causing the trauma that retinols and other actives can

The Vital Role of Peptides: Peptides play an important role in thousands of chemical reactions in our bodies and they play an essential role in youthful, healthy, firm skin. One of the reasons our skin becomes less elastic, loses firmness and wrinkles form as we age is due to changes in peptide activity and damage to existing peptide chains.

The Work of Peptides outside the cell: We recommend using stem cell products in conjunction with peptides to strengthen the inner core of the cells for best results. Stem cells not only increase the skin’s receptiveness to peptides and other active ingredients, but more importantly, they strengthen and increase the longevity of skin cells, representing a major breakthrough in overall skin health and appearance.

Good news for Rosacea suffers

Rosacea is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition, affecting adults most often between the ages of 30 and 60. The first phase it causes redness to appear on the face and as it progresses, it produces small, inflamed, pus-filled bumps or pustules. It tends to be progressive, which means it gets worse over time if left untreated, but the good news is that it is treatable. In severe cases, it may be necessary to see your doctor for rosacea treatment as antibiotic treatments have been shown to calm already inflamed skin.

WebMD states that Rosacea develops in phases. It is important to recognize it early phases so that as part of rosacea treatment, you can break or prevent the cycle of inflammation and calm your skin.

  • Pre-Rosacea – may begin as a tendency to flush or blush easily, then progress to a persistent redness in the center portion of your face, particularly the nose. Rosy cheeks or patches of red appear on the face. Skin on the face usually becomes more sensitive, reacting to skin products, such as lotions, soaps and even moisturizers not formulated for sensitive skin.
  • Vascular Rosacea – As signs and symptoms worsen, facial redness increases on the cheeks, forehead, or chin. Sudden increases of blood flowing through the blood vessels under the skin of the face cause increased flushing. Blood vessels relax and dilate more causing skin redness. In time, ongoing dilation may cause blood vessels to get larger and look like small red lines or patches onthe skin. Skin often becomes overly sensitive to triggers that cause flushing.
  • Inflammatory Rosacea – Tiny red bumps or pimples may appear on and around the area of redness, spreading across the nose, cheeks, forehead and chin. If flare-ups continue, the redness increases, and flare-ups occur more often creating a cycle of inflammation. If rosacea is untreated, the redness may become permanent.
  • The causes of Rosacea are not clear, but current research points to some combination of hereditary, lifestyle, bacteria, menopause and environmental causes. The best approach to lessening or preventing the cycle of Rosacea and extra sensitive skin is to avoid the triggers that cause the initial inflammation and to consistently use quality skin care products formulated for skin prone to flushing.

A number of factors can trigger Rosacea or make it worse due to increased blood flow to the surface of your skin. Here are the most common triggers from a study done by the National Rosacea Society:

If you have Rosacea, it is important to take the time to discover what your lifestyle and environmental triggers are so that you can effectively prevent outbreaks. Keeping a record of activities, conditions, food and weather can be an invaluable way to prevent outbreaks. Here is a link to the Rosacea Diary Form from the National Rosacea Society (NRS)

88% of Rosacea patients surveyed by the NRS with severe symptoms said the disorder had adversely affected their professional interactions and many have even taken sick days due to concern about their appearance. To prevent irritation, broken blood vessels and unsightly blemishes here are some simple tips to care for ultra-sensitive skin:

  • Watch out for ingredients that trigger irritation or inflammation like alcohol, witch hazel, menthols and eucalyptus
  • Use fragrance-free products and makeup (According to the American Academy of Dermatology, “Fragrances cause more allergic contact dermatitis than any other ingredient.”)
  • Make sure skin care products have been formulated without the use of paraben preservatives
  • Wear broad-spectrum, zinc oxide sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher to protect your face from the sun. In addition to providing outstanding sunblock protection, zinc oxide promotes healing
  • Avoid irritating your skin by rubbing or touching it too much
  • Wash problem areas with a gentle cleanser – preferably formulated for sensitive skin
  • When using a moisturizer and a topical medication, apply the moisturizer after the medication has dried
  • Avoid overheating during exercise, hot weather and drinking hot beverages
  • Continue your treatment/prevention regimen after seeing results
  • Be gentle to your skin. Wash areas daily with a gentle cleanser and use oil-free, water-based skin care products

The good news for Rosacea suffers is that a consistent, gentle skin care regimen can make a significant, lasting and visible difference in managing Rosacea and extra sensitive skin, not to mention peace of mind. The development of Ocaline, which is in our Rosacea Soothing Gel, is a breakthrough for fighting skin inflammation caused by Rosacea, Acne, and Sensitive Skin. It is one of 5 products we recommend our Rosacea clients use as part of their home care regimens, which also includes a gentle Cleanser, Hydration Serum (Nano-Peptide B5 Complex), Moisturizer, and SPF 30 Solar Protection with high UVA & UVB blocking ability.
